My Beauty Favorites

Is everyone else obsessed with favorites videos on Youtube?  I don’t change my favorites enough to do monthly favorites because I tend to stick to things I really like.  I also don’t wear a lot of makeup. I was a makeup artist for four years while I was in college, so I go pretty natural these days.  Plus I’m only ever at three places: the office, the grocery store, and home.

You’ll see that a lot of the products are natural.  I’m in the process of making the switch to healthier products because I work so hard at putting good things in my body, so I shouldn’t be putting unhealthy things ON my body, right? The majority of the natural products I’m using are from Beauty Counter.  They have an amazing philosophy and if you’re interested in using healthy and natural products, take a peek at their story here.

I’ll hyperlink the products and prices below the photos.  If you have any feedback or questions (maybe which shades I use?) please leave them in the comments.  Thanks for reading!

I wash my face with coconut oil and baking soda–one part baking soda, two parts coconut oil.  I have combination skin, so I typically don’t need moisturizer after I cleanse in the morning. At night, I follow with patting in a few drops of Beauty Counter Balancing Oil.  If I need spot treatment, I dab on Mario Badescu Drying Lotion with a Q-Tip.

Coconut Oil: $8.79

Baking Soda: $4.19

Drying Lotion: $17

Beauty Counter Balancing Oil: $68

Tinted Moisturizer/Foundation:

I usually just use a tinted moisturizer on my face. For very little coverage, I use Beauty Counter Dew Skin. It just helps to even out a little discoloration, but doesn’t cover other imperfections. When I need a little more coverage, I use Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream. If I’m having a bad skin day, I use foundation. The one I love is Beauty Counter Tint Skin. It has light, but buildable, coverage with a dewy finish.  It makes my skin look natural and perfect.  For a matte finish over any of these products, or for extra coverage, I lightly brush over it with Laura Geller Balance-n-Brighten Baked Color Correcting Foundation.

BC Dew Skin Tinted Moisturizer: $45

BC Tint Skin Foundation: $41

Smashbox BB: $39

Laura Geller powder: $33

Let me sing you Tarte Cheek Stain’s praises. I’ve been obsessed with it for years! It lasts all day and looks so natural, but is also incredibly buildable. These also never run out–as you can see from my bottle! It has spent many months in my purse and makeup bag.

Tarte Cheek Stain: $30

This is a recent favorite of mine. I’m a fan of Carli Bybel and while perusing through the Ulta website, I saw that her palette has been killing it! It’s so affordable and I thought I should give it a chance. I don’t  wear much eyeshadow, but these colors are perfect for fall and I have actually been really enjoying how the pink and plumb colors bring out my hazel eyes. What I’m really thrilled about, though, is the highlighters. They are so pigmented and last all day.

Carli Bybel 14 Color Eyeshadow & Highlighter Palette: $14.50!

Aside from the eyehadows in the last photo, here are my other eye favorites.  I have spent so much money on luxe brand mascaras and none of them touch Covergirl Lashblast or Maybelline Lash Sensational. If you like huge separated lashes, here are your go-to’s.  For my brows, I use Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Brow Color.  It looks really natural and is about as close as you can  get to actual brow tattooing.  For a little extra brightness, I use Urban Decay Moondust Eyeshadow and the shine  is unbelievable.  I finish with Beauty Counter Touchup Skin under my eyes.

Maybelline Lash Sensational: $8.99

Covergirl Lashblast Volume: $8.99

Urban Decay Moondust Eyeshadow: $21

Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Brow Color: $21

BC Touchup Skin Concealor: $32

I don’t use too much on my lips. I’m  usually wearing Beauty Counter peppermint balm, Sheer Minerals Hydrating Organic Lip Gloss, or Urban Decay gloss for some fun sheer color.

Lemongrass Spa Organic Lip Gloss: $15 Made by a spa in Pine, Colorado.

Beauty Counter Lip Conditioner in Peppermint: $20

Urban Decay Revolution High-Color Lip Gloss: $22

I got sick of spending so much money and time on SNS manicures, so I ordered Sensationail.  It’s basically an at-home shellac manicure.  I got a bunch of colors and look forward to changing the color every week. It’s also just so nice to do your nails, put them under the lamp, and then not have to worry about dry time and ruining them.

Sensational Starter Kit: $22.99

I get all of my colors off of Amazon.

I wash my hair at night and go to bed with it damp, so in the morning I just put in these large barrel curlers and finish getting ready for work.  I love that I never have to blow dry and my hair takes maybe 10 minutes tops, but I always get compliments on it.

Ceramic Tools Curlers: $42.99 and I bought larger barrel Ceramic Tools curlers separately.

Beauty Counter Citrus Mimosa Cream smells amazing and is so light. I use it straight out of the shower and keep a travel size in my purse. I also use Beauty Counter Lustro Shimmer Oil on my legs, collar bones, and cheek bones.

BC Lustro Shimmer Oil: $35

BC Citrus Mimosa Lotion: $24

In the summer, I use Royal Hawaiian Pikake Cologne. It makes me smell like a vacation. My winter scent is Alien by Thierry Mugler. It’s a sexy, woody fragrance and I’ve  literally been chased down by people asking for the name of my perfume. I at least get one compliment a day on it. Fragrance to me is so important because it’s feminine and is part of being  “put together”.

Royal Hawaiian Pikake Cologne: $12.88 (I purchased this in Hawaii so I’m not sure if the stuff on Amazon is real or not.)

Thierry Mugler Alien: $82

Recipe: Detox Charcoal Lemonade Tea

I’ve lost 18 pounds recently!  I’ve gone down two pant sizes and I just feel healthy.

So–having said that, I’ve been making this detox tea and I truly think it’s helped me with my weight loss.  Obviously I’ve had to change up my diet and exercise routine to make it happen, but I do see a difference in how I feel and look in the morning on my “off weeks” from the tea.  And no, it doesn’t make you have to use the lady’s room like many detox teas out there.  I think some of those detox teas are flirting with bulimia and I don’t suggest trying it.

I use only 1-2 teaspoons of activated charcoal which is enough to just grab onto those toxins in your body.  I drink it before bed and wake up feeling more fresh and energetic, which in turn helps me with my workout in the morning and my activity level throughout the day.  I actually notice my skin looks brighter as well.  ***Be sure to drink at least 8-10 glasses of water a day while drinking this.  It’s grabbing onto the toxins and you need to help flush them out.

I think it’s okay-tasting.  I actually look forward to it and aside from a little grittiness, it’s really refreshing and comforting.  My husband said it’s the worst thing he’s ever tried…so you be the judge. 🙂

Similar charcoal lemomade drinks like this one are around $10 a serving.  This recipe is very inexpensive and easy to make. Ready for the super easy recipe?

Ingredients for one serving:

One piece of fresh Ginger Root (like the broken-off pieces pictured)

One lemon

One bag dandelion tea

1-2 teaspoons activated charcoal made from coconut shells

12oz water

Boil water.

Steep dandelion tea bag for 10-15 minutes.

Add juice of 1 lemon.

Break off a piece of ginger. I press the ginger into the tea with a garlic press.

Add 1-2 teaspoons of activated charcoal.  Stir vigorously.

These are the brands I use for the tea and charcoal powder.  The tea you can get at most grocers and I bought the charcoal off of Amazon here.

I drink the tea for one week on and one week off.  Give it a go and tell me what you think!
